Nature and Forestry Centre

Halfway between Prince George and Prince Rupert, Houston is both a wilderness and an industrial hub. Forestry and mineral explorations have contributed to the area's prosperity but recreation and fishing in the area's rivers and lakes are bringing more people to Houston every year. Houston is also known as the Steelhead Capital and is home to the world's biggest fly rod; over 18 metres (59 ft.) in length! However it is not just fishers who are attracted to the area; cross-country skiiers and hikers are drawn to the many kilometres of trails. The lakes, rivers and forest entice those interested in backpacking, camping, canoeing, photography and wildlife viewing. Woods tours are offered by the different forest companies in the area enabling you to see logging practices in action.

Whether you are interested in the outdoors from a recreation or commercial perspective, Houston has something exciting to offer.
